at point defiance park, there is a big statue of this dude, francis cushman.
he was a congressman who was instrumental in guiding the legislation of turning over the 640 acres of point defiance park to the city of tacoma, over 101 years ago. the legislation was signed by president theodore roosevelt on march 3, 1905.
